31 Mar 2010 A busy weekend
 |  Category: Uncategorized  | Comments off

The past weekend was really busy for me and my dogs. On saturday we went to a frisbee seminar, organised by ŠD Flipsi and led by my dear friend Jean McCollister. I took Veni and Didi with me. First we had a short lecture about frisbees and the rules in the frisbee disciplines.

Then we had individual training sessions with dogs. First one up was Didi. Our main problem was dropping the frisbee on command. So we mainly did practices for that.

Veni has the oposite problem in freestyle. She drops frisbee as soon as she catches it. That is not such a big problem, but I have to run more to collect the frisbees. At the end we tried to do the back vault with Veni and she did a pretty good job (with some help).

And on Sunday we went to agility competition in Kutina (Croatia). And we again collected a nice collection of faults. Didi forgot slalom again (in agility and jumping). Buffy went really well in agility, but unfortunally jumped too early of the swing and that took me by surprise and I didn’t react fast enough so she jumped into the disqualification. She missed the entry in slalom in jumping (I was to far away). And my dear Veni for the end… Still some problems on A-frame and really slow dogwalk. But we will not give up on running A-frame. I think soner or later she will realised that she has to do the same A-frame on competitions as on practice.

And I have another news. I stole Didi from Katja. But only for a month or so. It is easier for me that she stays with me so I can go to practice when I want to go (and that I can do obedience and tricks with her more often).

A big thank you to my friend Maja Rokavec for these beautifull pictures!

I made my homework yesterday and I made a trick video of my Veni:

This are just some of the tricks that Veni knows. But you can see how much fun she has performing it. :D

09 Mar 2010 Jenny Damm seminar

When I heard that our friends from KOSSP are organising a seminar with Jenny Damm I didn’t hesitate to enter. Then I had some problems deciding with which dog should I run. I knew that I will run either with Veni or Didi. Veni is still in the middle of retraining the A-frame and I didn’t want to go with her because of that. Didi has some problems with listening to me on the course so I though that she is not ready for a seminar because of the lack of trainings. And at the end Didi won just because of the fact that we have some problems and because I believe that I can learn more with a less experienced dog. And I did learn some new things that I will try to work on it. Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures or videos from the seminar. :(

02 Mar 2010 Agility competition in Prestranek (20.2.2010)

Two long months have passed since our last competition. And since there was so much snow in Ljubljana, we couldn’t train at all.  So my expectations were not high. I just hoped that Veni would not forget our contacts (we are trying to improve our A-frame) and that Didi would make good contacts and slalom. I didn’t know what to expect from Buffy, since I haven’t run with her at all.

Veni decided that she must knock down the first bar in every run. So we got 10 penalties for that. Her A-frame was OK, but she can do it better.

I was really surprised by Didi’s performance. Her contacts and slalom were perfect, she only listened to me a little to much, so we got a disqualification in the first run because I turned too soon. She knocked some bars in jumping and had one refusal. But she proved again that she is fast (the second best time in jumping even with a refusal).

Buffy and I need to get used to each other. We had some problems with comunication and she “forgot” how to make a good contact.  :D
